An Apple

I turn the apple
Over and over
In my hand,

Looking for the perfect
Start
To Bite into.

I find it
And sink my maw into
The apple.

A bite
Chunked off
And consumed.

The simple pleasure
Of Eating
An apple.

I return for
Another,
My upper teeth penetrate at a calculated angle and my lower jaw closes the gap so that a slice of the apple is surgically severed from the rest of the body.

A satisfying crunch.
A splash of sweet juice
Escapes.

I return for
Another,
And Another, and Another, and Another.

The simple pleasure
Of Eating
An Apple.

Until all that is left
Is but a core.
Useless.

Hard,
Seedy,
Useless core.

I place what is left,
The waste,
Into the plastic garbage receptacle.
