A snowfall in Spring
Melts and wets the roads the same
As if it were rain
A snowfall in Spring
Melts and wets the roads the same
As if it were rain
Mornings, the chill bites
Tingles the spine, numbs fingers
Today, I’ll bite back
Drifting floatlessly
As a grounded cloud might do
One day at a time
A gray sky beams down
Sparkles, shimmers prettily
Lightly wets my face
Enamel pillars
Separated by a gap
A smile all the same
Her name was Willow
She was beautiful to me
Now, they call her Stump
This chest’s been empty
A cage only for frigid air
Then you messaged me
Sleepless nights I spend
Dreaming of the mistakes
I left just around the bend,
Hidden behind the lakes.
The signs read “No Phishing,”
But I can’t read them here,
As I spend twilight wishing,
One hand a rod, the other a beer.
And the morning draws nearer,
The shore drifts closer,
My mind no clearer,
The shore drifts closer.
Catch and release, then.
Sleepless nights I spend.
Empty-handed, again.
Back from the bend.
A gray sky
Stares back up at me
As I gaze through
The peephole of the horizon
And I think today will be
A very bright
Rainy day.
The morning sun sets
Behind a midday noon
And I’m a hunger
For what I left behind
